I have my mare in an Elevator bridle which she's very happy with and I don't intend to change it, but because there wasn't any tack or history when I bought her from a dealer, I kind of stumbled around in the dark tack wise and she's very, very fussy.

I would like to have a spare bridle and I am considering my options on ebay.

Would a rolled bridle suit as much as the Elevator does? What are the benefits/comparisons, who uses them and why please?

Ameretto coffee and biscuits for thoughts;)

I love my Elevator (especially the Double as it comes with no throat lash and looks great on my PRE). However when his hand me down snaffle became too big I decided to treat him to a new one. I bought a really nice one from Morgan Dressage at Burghley. It is black patent and cost me £99 including reins and its English leather. The headpiece is very similar to an Elevator and that's what attracted me to it.

As Ashgrove said, Rolled bridles are usually used on Arabs. This is so as to shop off there fine heads without having a bulky bridle in the way. You will need to be careful using a rolled bridle over the poll of the horses head as depending on which bit you use you could be applying unnecessary preasure there. Also a lot of rolled bridles buckle up over the poll.

The fact that your mare has been in an elevator bridle suggests to me that she may be sensitive to poll preasure so maybe stick to something that offers the greatest amount of comfort behind the ears and stay clear of using bits that have high and or low shanks which will increase the amount of poll preasure applied when pulling back on the reins.

Good luck :)

Thanks everybody.

Goes to show how ignorant I am, I thought that the fact that the leather is rolled there would be less pressure over the poll, not more.

I'll keep looking for another elevator, or of that type suggested.

Thanks again;)

Rolled bridles are simply a fashion/personal choice, as are patent, brass or stainless steel buckles etc.

looks amazing (but was £280!)
