RI says I need spurs for impulsion whilst schooling - clearly schooling is boring and if Mum wants to do it, she needs to do a LOT of work! Plenty of impulsion whilst hacking out however!!!!

So I have decided on the metal roller ball spurs. I see JHL do a 20mm stainless steel roller ball spur and HM Elite do a 30mm stainless steel roller ball spur.

Which do you reckon would need less leg movement to work - equally, I don't want to send him into outer space!!!

I have the 30mm ones. They are much, much 'softer' than any 'normal' spurs, and I usually ride in 30mm normal ones. I prefer the KM Elite versions to all the plastic versions as there are no 'edges' which because the plastic balls are split in half, they do feel as though they have. You'd have to have a super-sensitive horse to send them into orbit with the rollerball ones - the 30mm need less leg to use effectively.

I have the 20mm ones for jumping with plastic bits on the end. But what size you need depends on how your leg sits on him and how much you want to have to move your leg to get them to work and how likely he is to object if you use them accidently. If he is likely to over react then I would go for the small ones.
