So some of you might have read about my fall the other day..

I fell off a youngster while wearing rollerball spurs and the spur 'ball' got caught on the breastplate strap (the one to the d ring) was left hanging upside down by my leg and needed physically unhooking by my trainer!

so doctors report.. and its badd times..

I have a torn cruciate and ripped meniscus and and badly strained achilees...
basically my knee and ankle are in a state..
They've put me in a splint.. and said no competing at all.. so I'm absoloutely gutted =(

the consultant when he actually found out what happened couldnt believe there wasnt a safety mechanism on the spurs.. he thought that they seems and accident waiting to happen?

I've never heard of this happening to anyone else.. has anyone here?

Oh no, poor you. Atleast it's right at the end of the season.

Never ever heard of anything like that happening before, a total freak accident if you ask me.

<<<healing vibes>>> that you mend quickly

nope, real freaky accident, tbh i honestly think you should write to H&H letters and also to the manufacturer, if it happened once it will happen again... you are really lucky that your horse was sensible and stopped.
umm, check whether your knee needs operating on. i tore my cruciate and my meniscus years ago and while gp said "just rest it, it'll be fine" specialist said "it needs an operation or it'll never be right again." keyhole surgery, rehab with physio = one 99% normal knee again.
v v best of luck with your recuperation.

The most depressing thing is I did my cruciate in my other leg playing hockey when I was 15 and the exact same thing happened to me.. oh just rest it.. then I had to have keyhole arthoscopy and tons of physio =/
which Is why I'm so so frustrated having to go through it again!

I'm definately going to write to the manufacturers.. they were a mark todd pair but I know a fair amount of brands produce them.. and H&H is a good Idea.. looks like I'm going to have a fair amount of 'off games' time to fill with letter writing!

What a freak accident. Though god knows what safety mech could be put on them - roweled spurs etc could so easily have done the same. I really think it is just one of those odd, wierd things!

can you bend it or straighten it, or is it 'stuck'? if the latter, i'd seriously consider nagging about surgery, unless you are lucky enough to have Private Health Insurance.

lucky to have Private and also the name of a good orthapeadic surgeon form the last leg mishap so off to see him on tuesday..
currently in a brace to stop it moving.. and it is really unstable..

That's awful, it's really freaked me out! I ride in rollerball spurs and I had never even considered that factor. Hope your leg gets better.

what a freak accident!

feel very sorry for you

hugs and try not to move the knee, my friend stretched her collateral and damaged her colligament from someone landing on her (netball collision) so know how easy it can be done

But tbh I think any freak accident can happen with any piece of equipment, must have been some heck of a fall for your heel to go up the shoulder!

I think I just managed to hang on round his neck and then he jumped to the side and I went head first to the ground! nothing to impressive and therefore even more annoying!

The obvious safety mechanism is a "weak" spur strap that would give under a certain amount of strain. Or possibly an elasticated one.

That sounds pretty painful, I hope it gets better soon. Lucky your horse didn't freak out too much though!
My friend did a similar thing to his knee out skiing, and originally they told him to rest it - it got no better and he's now had surgery and physio on it and seems to be fine.

I have those same spurs, thankfully I don't have a breastplate

can I just ask, where your spur straps leather or material?

hope you dont feel too rough today

leather.. and not that new (ridden in every day for two years)
I'm suprised they didnt break..

and I really dont think it would have happened in normal spurs.. (it was the ball that got caught) possibly roweled ones.. but then they would have rotated I think as they rotate vertically and balls spin horizontally.

I thought possibly some sort of pop off mechanism.. but then I'd lose the balls all the time.. or even safety straps?

Poor you, cruciates are horrible

I have rollerball spurs which I wear daily but luckily no breastplate so I reckon I'm safe! Fingers crossed eh?
