First up we had the honour of taking part in an Arthur Kottas clinic. Worked on 10m circles and leg yeild/shoulder in mixing sitting trot with rising. It was a fantastic day- the next 'smallest' was a 16hh! We were totally out of place but loved it! It really was a special experience. The few 'good's I got from him will stay with me for a long time. He was quite keen to take C home to keep like a dog! A few pictures here: (I am in the process of trying to buy some!)

Then, finally my old carriage was ready for action after his refurb! He is called Bruce :p and is a totally new man! Seriously impressed with the work done on him, better than new. Monday he had his first drive:

and Wednesday his second:

Basically a pro already! Really need to get out and about in the fields and the roads to get some purpose to his paces but considering that is a 4 wheeler on a surface 2 drives in he is doing great. He so so wants to please and is so chilled and confident he is a schoolmaster before he has even done anything. Planning our driving season now.... Pleasure driving (the show class) vs young pony HDT vs a scurry or two.... who knows what we will have time for between everything else I want him to do!

Then today off to our first TSR clinic. Really interesting session, very clear messages from the instructors and it was clear they had a very definite aim which is really helpful. tbh the inhand session (each session covers both) was as useful or more than the ridden. Really worked on the best way to both stand and trot up each horse. Ridden wise spent some time on flatwork, followed by individual shows and finished off with more flatwork but focusing on the rider so off I was sent with a whip under my thumbs which really reaffirmed how much more I need to train him to come off my leg not hand.

Pretty posh warmup school....

Too much showing as a colt really does send them wild ;)

He's so lovely :) I think it's nice to have some diversity at dressage clinics, but them I am biased...

Interested re your comments on the carriage, I'd never thought about the effect of being on a surface or the number of wheels  I suppose it's obvious really!

Also interested in the TSR clinic report, having dipped just the tips of my toes into showing I was looking at going to one of those to try and learn a bit more about what I am supposed to be doing! I was a bit worried in case it was really for more experienced people?

Ah I saw the AK clinic advertised, I have watched a few of his and would have been too intimidated to take part, I have seen him very calmly and quietly tear shreds from people!
How was it? what did you learn from it? was it different to any other 'dressage' clinics you have been to?

What a cracking little fella! I did wonder whether driving on a surface would be extra challenging.

MP - I did a TSR class as part of my prep for the sunshine tour last year. Found it very helpful. The standard at the one I went to was good, but I didn't feel totally outranked as it is aimed at amateurs.

The TSR clinic had everyone from people already showing competitively at open level seriously aiming for the open tickets and producers to horses unable to canter. I got loads of invaluable advice. Would strong recommend!

Easton Park stud is a lovely venue, isn't it? Just up the road from me. You should do some pleasure driving classes with him, although it's pretty boring compared to HDT!

The AK clinic was fab. I'm not sure if he thought I was a lost hope (or maybe a child!) but everything was fair. It was almost more like a 'routine' than a lesson, in that we did very structured exercises in an exact order at exact markers, sort of how I imagine the SRS is! I can see that for some it might upset them/the horse as it's a very clear cut way of working, but me and C are both super green so pretty casual to all that! Learnt I need to be stricter mainly! He might only be 6 months broken but he's strong enough to do the transitions in 1 stride and supple enough for 10m circles so no need to baby him with gradual transitions and big easy shapes.

Oh I had wondered if it was you at the AK clinic (I was there as a spectator). He did give one of the other riders a bit of a hard time.

I thought your boy much nicer in the flesh than in photographs, and that he was wonderfully chilled about the whole thing. It was so cold though that I'm surprised the chattering of teeth didn't cause the horses to spook ...
