what exactly is rollkur.
I've seen the tongue video, but what is the training technique that is the cause of the big debate?

It is where riders ride (dressage) their horse very deep. So effectively their nose is touching their chin and the horse can only literally see the floor (as it's head is completely tucked into it's chest) and does not have much flexibility (which is actually supposed to be the point of it)

I have just watched a thing on Carl Hester, who says forgetting rolkurr the horse has to be supple and flexible so thus has to work in different outlines and shapes within stretching... Which makes sense but what some riders are riding their horses in this deep position for lengthy periods of time, as opposed to quick moments of flexible work, which obviously doesn't sound good from the horses point of view as it's quite horrible to watch them being worked in this 'awkward' position!

it is hyperflexion of the neck, usually using a double bridle. lots of articles and pictures of it if you google. opinions are divided on it, to put it mildly... some of us think it is tantamount to horse abuse, others think it is a worthwhile way of training that gets the results...

Those who think the end can always justify the means, whatever those means are, anyway...
