Im sorry if this has been asked but I bought a roma grazing muzzle for my thoroughbred from Equestrian Clearance, it came with no ''instructions'' as such and as I have never had to use one before I do not know how long is safe for them too wear it? I put it on him about 2pm today and took it off at 6pm, I don't want it on overnight, and would really like to know how long they can safely wear a grazing muzzle for? Does it HAVE to come off?

when people buy them from the shop we suggest them to wear it during the day when the sugar levels in the grass are at their highest, for up to 12 hours, and then either take it off overnight and leave them in the field, however they may gorge themselves or bring them into a stable for the night with a small holed haynet it doesnt take them long to get used to eating with a grazing muzzle however i did notice that the coloured ones are much softer than the black muzzles which is strange, alot of customers have complained about the black ones rubbing then buying a fun coloured one and they have no problems

I bought one of these the other day and asked similar questions........mare has had it on during the day and off at night, however it has rubbed her face quite bad so just ordered some sheepskin pieces for it failing that am on the look out for a softer one.......

Most people have them on during the day and off at night. Make sure he can eat through it before leaving it on for long periods ( mine still won't eat thro hers) most horses adapt quickly. Poke bits of grass through the holes until they get the idea.

sorry to gatecrash, but are they true to size? someone said they got a full for their normally cob size etc!

Do you have a thoughbred that overeats/is overweight? Wow, never heard of that before.:)

Yes indeed I do! I have an ex-racer who believe it or not get fats on thin air, and he's been moved into a new field with grass thats been rested for a year, I knew it was going to be a mistake but unfortunately with the yard rules I didn't have a choice. And almost overnight he got massive so has now been restricted to a tiny cabbage patch and a grazing muzzle during the day!

Thank you too everyne else that posted, I will probably follow that but it does look like its going to rub quite bad so I'm not sure if I'll continue using it.
