So apparently Ronnie was prepared for his bone scan today but their supplier has refused to deliver the technetium as the worldwide shortage has hit again today and the stuff has to be prioritised for human use. No idea when they'll be able to get some but he's staying at Cambridge until they do. Apparently all vets have been hit today.

Just my/Ronnie's luck.

Same thing happened to me - it took about 3 weeks for rossdales to get it.

did they give you an eta? it might be worthwhile taking him home as the livery costs could be huge in comparison to the transport costs.

They're hoping it'll be in the next few days. They have said I won't have to pay any more to leave him there. If no joy by Friday I will see if it's worth bringing him home. I get the imprrssion though that they don't want him moving too much, and they might refuse him to travel until they know what's wrong.

This is awful. Didn't sleep last night due to worry but thought within 24 hours at least I'd know one way or the other.

They are giving you free livery?

Definitely glad you went with my suggestion. The other one would have charged you £30 a day.

I know what you mean about waiting. I had to wait 3 weeks for the appointment, then they faffed about so long it was 48 hours before I had the results.

At least they are looking after him now, and honestly they said to me it would be a 6 week wait but it was only 3 in the end.

They know I'm paying (rather than insurance) so they're doing everything they can to keep cost down. I'm a bit surprised if they don't charge me for it, but we'll see.

The waiting is a killer isn't it? Glad I haven't had to wait as long as you - only 12 days for appt, but obviously not sure how long until the scan can happen.

48 hours before results?! That's horrendous, you must have been going mad? The vet said she would phone me tonight (if the scan had been today). Though whether that would have happened is another matter I guess.

How's your rehab going?

Rode him in walk for 20 mins last night. He was stiff bending but I felt a lot more movement through the back.

A bit reluctant to step under and really use himself properly but he hasnt been ridden in over a week. Will ride him again on Friday (right now he is only being ridden 4 times a week as still a lot of work).

Its been 7 weeks since the injection so we will find out this weekend I think. Vet due in 4 weeks.

yes I know how you feel, my mare was waiting also for radioactive isotope for her bone scan! I was told on Monday that they couldnt get hold of any for the whole week! But my vets practise were so great they kept phoning the supplier and then managed to get some for yesterday (apparently had a human cancellation)!! At least if he is staying at the vets they can do it whenever they get hold of the stuff! Good luck

Hello - still waiting. Apparently he's been moved onto the main yard and is happy and well - they have no idea yet when the scan will happen. I'd imagine he's annoying everyone intensely by being very nosey.

I went to visit Friday and Saturday and he was still very sore and lame (even in the stable). But he was doing laps of the rather large stable which I doubt is helping matters.

Will let you know if any news on scan date. It's my 30th birthday on Saturday and I was really hoping to know before then what his likely fate is going to be. I've changed plans so that I'm now spending the day in Cambridge and can see Ronnie am and pm. I miss him terribly, horrid having nothing to do in the evenings.

How's the injection going? Do you think it will be solving the problem suitably? I sure hope so. I haven't read why your horse isn't suitable for op? Keeping fingers crossed for you that the rehab works well.

Oh dear - I think the waiting is the worst part. Fingers crossed the scan comes back clear. Happy Birthday for Sat as well - not a great way to spend it but at least you get to see him. Does he have no exercise at all? Surely that would contribute to the stiffness?

KS is in the lower lumbar region - not a part they usually operate on. Seems to be working, he certainly was full of himself on the weekend, however I have noticed that he is still really stiff behind. I am trying to get into some semblance of work but it is so hard. I will start inceasing his workload this week, and he will be up to being ridden 5 times a week at 30 mins of schooling (W/T) and 1 hour hacking (hillwork). Will see how he is in 5 weeks or so when the vet is coming back out.

Thank you for Sat - yes I shall be glad to see him. I've bought a bag of carrots ready! the waiting is awful but I must admit I'm less worried than I was this time last week. I couldn't keep up with that level of stress and worry for very long. Will go back to panic stations on the day of the scan. I think he's on full box rest with no exercise which yes, I'd imagine is making him look worse.

Could the stiffness be him not realising he can use himself properly now? Maybe it'll improve as the workload increases? This is such a bad time of year for rehab work. Good luck and do keep me posted. I think my friend will be picking hers up today after his KS operation. Amazing how many horses seem to suffer.
