There was an in-hand showing show at our yard yesterday, open to external people too. I thought it would be a good chance to see how Ronnie behaves at shows without the added excitement of being somewhere new. Spent ages getting him gleaming, plaiting and trimming etc, he did look gorgeous. He was falling asleep beforehand so I thought it might be easy after all. Haha I was so wrong. I led him out of stable and down to the arena, and he turned the corner and where there's normally just empty space was full of horseboxes and strange horses. Poor Ronnie's brain exploded and we had a bucking and rearing tantrum. I went back to put my riding hat on, for safety, and when we came round the corner the 2nd time he was a bit better.

In the ring ("Best Conditioned") he kept having leaping in the air and kicking out moments, and I thought I was going to have to take him out

. Our individual trot up was more of a individual mini explosion, but we were placed 4th. It was quite a big class and I was so shocked to come 4th with a skinny TB!

I them put him back in his box to chill out until his 2nd class. Also gave him a double dose of rescue Remedy! He was MUCH better before the 2nd class, I was able to walk him round the box park and chat to a friend beforehand. Ronnie did want to be walking about rather than standing still but that wasn't a problem really.

In the 2nd class ("Riding Horse"), there were only 4 of us and it was pretty obvious who was going to come 1st and 2nd (gorgeous horses!), but me and my friend were battling it out for 3rd and 4th. Ronnie was much calmer, only one or two leaping moments, and his trot-up was much better. Finally we came 3rd.

So two pretty rosettes from his first show and he definitely calmed down during the day. I then turned him out for a little while and he managed to plaster himself in mud from nose to tail - obviously didn't appreciate being sparkly clean!!! Haven't had a chance to upload any photos yet.

Thanks, was very proud of him in the 2nd class, he was really like "mummy am I doing the right thing?" and very insecure. He wouldn't stand still for the judge though - she had to make her opinion of a spinning, wandering beast!!

It was gorgeously warm! Did you manage to ride Archie?

Well done and keep taking him out to shows and he should soon be settled and an old hand - took my little cob one class - he too spent the first couple of minutes on springs and then settled, but he is exceptionally laid back most of the time.
