Please can I have any good hints or tips for making rosettes?

I am (going to attempt) to make four. Not 1st, 2nd etc, but rather just very girly and bright!

There are a couple of little girls I gave grooming and plaiting tips to. Somehow this escalated into doing a mini tack and turnout show with them over the easter holidays. I think them all getting "well done" rosettes would be a nice prize... and cheaper than anything else I can think of.

I have been researching how to make them, and now I have got pleating the ribbon sussed I think I have a reasonable chance of success, maybe!

How many metres of ribbon will I need for a 3 tier rosette? (And how much per tier?)
Will glue from a glue gun be strong enough?
How think does the cardboard on the base have to be?

Thanks!

Hi, thanks for all the help so far :) All is hugely appreciated!

Toby Zaphod, looking at prices I could probably buy the rosettes for a similar price to making them. However I am actually really looking forwards to the challenge of making them now... sad I know... but it will give me domething to do in between studying law!

Also this means I can make them with the colours I want(as in suitable for 8 year old girls). I am thinking bright pink, lilac and cream!

Thanks for the website horsegirl, I actually had already watched that tutorial!! The site is very interesting, looking at the different types of pleated ribbon they even told me how much I would need for 1m of it, very hlpful!
