It's been a busy weekend and Alice is now deservedly sleeping in the garden topping up her tan (she won the bet she had with a colleague, got a tenner for having the best tan... Profitable business!). Both ponies are also snoozing- Bee with the beloved Donkey (she has eyes only for him, despite the offerings of Reggie and SuperCob) and Reggie with his coloured cob gang. You can't say our horses don't have class...
Yesterday there was autumn hunting at the place where Bee is kept, so Al got up at the crack of dawn to take her out. She hoped it would really help Bee really start thinking forward, as she does like to take a lead where possible... She likes her 'string'! However, Bee was also bedecked with ribbons of most colours and Al was wearing her best protective gear and had left instructions for which songs she'd like at her funeral. Bee's can be a bit quick behind when she's excited, and when she was first being broken/ racing she was renowned for her amazing rodeo displays.
She was awesome, set out a bit plungey but settled quickly and loved it. She constantly surprising us at how game she is and how much she likes doing things right
Today was her dressage debut
Was also meant to be Reg's first novice outing, but that was vetoed as Al didn't want to be waiting for ages
Bit nervous as she's in season and we were taking SuperCob as well, who is the riggiest old letch I've ever met- he does all the grunting and snorting and prancing... We've told him when he's doing that, sweating profusely and grunting like a pig he's never been less attractive, but he won't listen
Baby Bee warmed up really sweetly, ignoring the pony playing Whacky Races in the field next door and all the other horses around her. She is so game for everything it seems and loves being a riding pony. Went into the ring with a bit of encouragement (there was music and another horse and a beeping horn and shadows... Baby pony eyes were out on stalks!) and went for a stroll round the arena and to say hi to the judge. Beeper went and they were off, and she did a really sweet test. It's quite tough for a baby in places, with half 10m circles and things and lots of transitions but she was really attentive and focussed.

Cooled her down and she went back on the lorry while SuperCob strutted his stuff (he was rather jolly, naughty boy! He is such a character, a proper DelBoy type- got to adore love him!) and then set off apprehensively for prelim 1. I set to studying this (I make a guest appearance in the video too
) as it looked complicated
Bee warmed up really nicely again, and went into the arena with her brave pants on
The test was much more confident, although Al has to be careful of not letting her get onto her forehand as she has so much oomph from behind and such big paces it's hard to contain right now. Means it all can look a little out of time, if you get that? I'm rubbish with words! Canter came off on both reins and they got 65.8% for another 3rd in a big class
Clever clever pony (rider did ok too, I suppose...)

Onto Fregs. Al got on him and went "My legs aren't working properly now"... Poor girl was on her last reserves after the past few days (she's been working in the chippie and other stuff as well as all her riding exploits) and Reg wasn't feeling cooperative after 3 hours on the lorry. But the test went reasonably, lost lots of marks for accuracy as I was battling with another caller and Al couldn't understand me- she's not got great hearing to start with! Came 5th with 61%, marks went right down to 51%, and they were 4 marks (not percent!) off 1st... Which could have been gained with better accuracy easily. How annoying, but oh well! General consensus is "Could have tried harder" for them both.
No photos of Reg, but I took this when we arrived: Reg, SuperCob and Bee's legs. I really like it
Onwards though, next weekend off (Al is a busy girl though, but I'm keeping schtum for now- may be a proud post soon though!) and then they're off eventing at the unaff. at Burnham Market. Think Bee is doing the 60cm, and Reg is doing the 1m- long old day
Cake for those who made it through this...
