my friends arab has just last night after x rays been diognosed with rotated pedal bone in front. He has been lame for a couple of weeks. Farrier came out but never mentioned lami. horse has never suffered from lami before.
My freind is so upset she cannot talk to anyone, so i dont know the ins and outs but she is taking him to a remidial farrier this week.
Can anyone tell me if this can be 'fixed' do horses become sound and also can they be ridden again - thanks x

Really depends on how much the bone has rotated and how quickly you start remidial shoeing and how good her farrier is.

Yes there is light at the end of the tunnel for some horses, but it will be a long and painfull process.

Horse's can become sound after this and continue to be ridden, however, it all depends on how far the bone has rotated.

You're friend needs to get her vet and her farrier talking so they are both on the same page when it comes to treatment. A remedial farrier will want to see the xrays so he can gauge how best to manage the horses feet. Personally if my farrier didn't want to see the xrays I'd be looking for another farrier.

It's not a matter of 'fixing' the bone as it will never rotate back to it's original position, the fight now is to stop the rotation where it is and work towards getting the horse sound again.

A friend's ex racer has rotated pedal bones. It took about 1 year for the farrier to get it under control, and about 2 years to get his feet to an acceptable standard, but now they're almost unrecognisable from the mess they were before. Time and a hell of a lot of patience works wonders.

Oh and he was rideable from quite early on, She also used boa/old mac boots over his shoes (very wearing on the boots unfortunately) when he was struggling and this really helped.

She needs to be aware that this is a long slow process, but can happily be very sucessful.
