Does anyone have any experience of the pedal bones of the rear hooves rotating upwards? Friends mare has has one go up 7 degrees and the other 9 which the vet said was rather a lot? However vet couldnt say why it had happened - has anyone seen it or heard of it?

Thanks.

I had a pony that had that but i now cant think for the life of me what the vet said at the time. Not much help am I?

Sometimes in laminitics the pedal bone can sink and the toe of the pedal bone can point upwards. Could that be it?

This has happened to my horse who had laminitis caused by cushings.

They were not rotated that far, but they had rotated backwards which my vet found very odd. They are a big equine practice and they had not seen it before so I think it's pretty uncommon.

It did not cause any more problem than forward "normal" rotation.

He has had mild laminitis since but so far this has not happened again.

if the horse is lame a pair of imprint shoes on the offending feet has show drastic improvement for laminitic horses and related pedal bone roatation as it han help take the pressure off
