... help me!

OH has a rottie who suffers terrible problems with his ears. His vets have fobbed him off time and time again with drops that seem to stop poor Rocky itching, scrathing and yelping out constantly for about a week at a time

.

OH has a friend with a rottie who has had his dogs ear syringed with success but OH's vets are avoiding the procedure like the plague?!?! I'm going to register Rocky with my local vet and see what they say. If you rub his ear it's nothing but fluid sloshing around, when he shakes his head ear gunk *yuk* flies all over the walls

, it smells sooo bad too and he's constantly digging it. Any experiences anyone? Treatment?

Thanks

Oh yes and it's been a nightmare....
Started shaking her head and after many unsuccessfull courses of eardrops and ear cleanser we had to have her put out and have her ears syringed. This was done 3 months after the initial problem started and it was a last resort really. It didn't clear up the problem totally as we still had to treat her with eardrops etc but it got most of the waxy gunk out.
Since then we have had another outbreak of sore ears and we duly went back to the vets. Another course of drops and it semed to settle quite quickly. I know religously use ear cleaner every 2 weeks to make sure the wax is soft and comes out so hopefully we don't have another bout.
I would change vets if you are not getting the treatment that the rottie requires.

Have you tried Epiotic? That is the only one that has worked for my boy, we went through months of hell with his ears and they are now clean as a whistle.
It is a weekly treatment, put it in, scrunch it in for 20 secs and let the dog shake it out, rather than putting cleaner in and messing about with cotton wool and agitating it.

Thanks Guys, think i will register him with my vets and see what they say and also get some Epiotic. It's so frustrating seeing him shaking his head all the time, must feel horrible, the dear of him.

Ki gets recurring ear infections too. We use the Epiotic and ear drops. Hadn't thought of using Epiotic on a weekly basis though, will do this from now on.

It costs a fortune cos the vets won't prescribe the ear drops without seeing him, incase there is something stuck in his ear and we make it worse. He sticks his claws so far into his ear that he yelps. Not helped by the fact that Tilly tries to help out by cleaning his ear for him

Rocky does this too

and then proceeds to shake his head and fling 'stuff' all over the newly painted walls

Mozz (one of the other Rottie's) tries to clean it, poor Rocky must like having a tongue in his ear as his back leg starts to paddle around in mid air!!!!!
