Hi guys

we took our Rottie in to have his knee mended unfortunatley he has not had the operation due to the vets picking up that he may infact have prostate cancer - we find out monday

There is no metastasis as far as they can see so monday we will discuss more about what to do next - for now the leg is on hold as we may not have him long enough to warrent an op :(

anyone had experience with this??????
Please tell me your dogs survived :(

In what way has this been diagnoses, did vets find out or is he showing symptoms leading to investigation, inc straining/blood in urine, stiffness whilst walking or anything? how old is he? how long have you had him? is he neutered and if so how long ago?

We see pretty good results once diagnosis is made and treatment is in place. They have a newish drug called ypozane for benign prostate hyperplasia, seems to be working well.

How did they diagnose this? Have they done a rectal exam? Is rottie weeing ok?

x

We do not have histological diagnosis untill wednesday
the scenario was he went in for his knee and passed blood in the urine whilst in the surgery - a sample was sent for diagnosis due to the blood present they then x-rayed and saw an enlarged prostate
they then inserted dye into the urethra which was taken up buy the prostate signaling the liklyhood of prostate Ca however at this point it could be a begnin tumour or cyst with infection
they have performed a wash out and collected a sample for analysis
the dog is 8 years old
has been owned from a puppy
and is not castrated

Sounds very similar to what my fella had, blood in urine and enlarged prostate, turned out not to be cancer (he had recurring UTIs, and a large mass of tissue in his bladder, due to his internal conformation, which is crap and left him open to multiple infections) and we had him neutered. Has had hardly any problems in the waterworks department since.

Hi not quite the same situation but 2 years ago one of our male rotties started losing a lot of blood through his penis - not when he was urinating, but just spurting out in large amounts.

Our vet referred him to a prostate specialist and she could feel an enlarged prostate so advised that it could be prostate cancer but after long discussions with my vet & the specialist we decided to get him castrated initially and continue with testing after that.

Luckily the castration cured the problem & further investigations revealed no cancer, so I hope you get the same results for your boy. It's such a worrying time so fingers crossed for you.

They believe it is not Cancer they have found no cancer cells in What they samples
He has a cyst and hyperplasia of the prostate
Castration and then a look at the cyst
So happy have just lost two horses in 10 months heard nothing but bad news off vets thank god this was different
Thank you all xxxxxx
