As per the title... we have 4ft round bales of hay delivered and as we don't have room to store them undercover, we use covers to keep them clean and dry.
The last cover we bought was lightweight green plasticky type fabric - it's lasted for a couple of years but the seams have ripped. Went to buy another but it seems they are no longer available!
I've seen large thick polythene 'bags' but they're not bale-shaped and I'm dubious about how long they would last.
I've also seen something called a Baletidy but it's pretty expensive - has anyone used one of these?

Any other suggestions gratefully received!

How about old turnout rugs? Breathable and more or less waterproof? It's what we use over the top of ours, although admittedly they are under the edge of a pole barn so they don't get the worst of the rain.

ETA sorry, I've just seen that you're in Wester Ross. Forget that idea. I doubt they'd be up to the job 😆 Ours is only Yorkshire rain. Yours is another level

I have the heavy duty bale tidy it was expensive but given the price of hay these days it has paid for its self. It is very strong and very water proof and does fit a 5' round bale. However if you get a bigger bale you have to take some off before the cover will fit our bales do vary is size they are well made and keep the hay in good condition. Mine is now 3 years old and as good as it was when I first bought it.

We purchased big thick round plastic bags to totally cover round haylage bales, comfortable bigger than the bales so easy to put over and take off , we purchased them from our local agricultural merchants, think they were in packs of 10, that was a few years ago. Could you use the big 1 ton sand/ gravel bags that builders merchants use, they would be big enough to go over but may not be deep enough.
