I own a round little appy with a very short back. Every saddle I've tried on her just slipped right around. I'd had a saddle fitter fit her last one, it still moved & I'd resorted to grip pads, tight girths & a prayer to stay upright on her.
I posted on here asking for advice (although I couldn't get my head around how it was possible to get a saddle to stay on a horse of that shape)
A very lovely lady sbloom offered advice & said it was possible to get a saddle to stay in the right place if the saddle was fitted correctly. I cheekily asked would she be willing to travel to the back of beyond & fit my little fatty.
Thankfully Sbloom agreed & duly travelled 3 hours to us.
Now I was still sceptical about this, but she assured me that the native pony saddles were built especially for strange shaped/wide/round horses/ponies.
I have to say I was very impressed with how much time & care was taken to find the right saddle for both of us.
Eventually I found The One. My little fat appy seemed happy, I loved it & no matter how much swaying from side to side I tried it didn't want to move.
The biggest test came yesterday, I had to mount from the ground, now this is something I never do normally & could never do on this mare & I've had to walk great distances to find a gate or something to climb on if I've had to get off her.
Before I knew it, I was up & on!! I didn't even have to hoik the saddle back in place!
I am totally impressed with both sbloom & the native pony saddles.
I just wanted to let any others know who have these rotund, no withered horses there is hope!
Thanks so much to sbloom for travelling all that way & helping us!
