I am hoping to get a lunge / round pen :D
Has anyone brought one recently and where from?
Im hoping to get one as cheap as possible, im happy to build one but unsure what would be best.

Doesn't need to be pretty just needs to do the job, looking to do this as cheaper as possible :)

I had one made - just from post and rail fencing with a slip rail entrance. Not sure how much it cost as the work was done with other fencing work and cost was all in.

If looking at the metal kit ones I would not go for one of the head high ones as I feel they can put quite a lot of pressure on the horse.

If you want really cheap and cheerful try Harris fencing. Needs to be 17m to 20m diameter or around there.
I can see the pijt about head high one's putting pressure on the horse, however my horses can easily pop over a normal metal gate height so post and rail normal height wouldn't work for me.

Advertise for one locally :D

If you have access to a supply of pallets then I have seen plenty made from wooden post uprights and pallets. If you use smaller posts the pallets can simply be slotted over the top. Choose pallets with narrowly spaced boards for safety, common sense (and I credit everyone with that) but if it isn't mentioned someone will jump on that like a ton of bricks and say it ;)

Or, again, posts, with rails (we just cut down young straight pines) or even just the wide plastic equi fencing or electric tape works at a push.

I have used 5' gate panels, or sheep hurdles before now. Mine are all at least 60', anything less is too small to be of much use.

You wont get a metal one for much less than £1.5k -or at least thats what I found when I was looking. If you are looking to loose school, it must be high enough for them to not be tempted to jump out and dont underestimate what they can jump when they want to!

Although I would never loose school in it I do have a small summer lunge ring/turnout pen/school for in hand stuff made from 4ft x 8ft alpaca hurdles-I have 2 sets of 10 and I think they were about £350 per set. I use them for all sorts of things when not being used for that and as far as the horses are concerned, only ones I know arent idiots or scratchers (and only then when I am out there with them).

There are various ones people have built that you'll find online-heras panels also work.

I made one out of the builders fencing panels years ago worked really well. I put it in a sheltered corner of one of of fields. It was taken down in the winter when the bad weather hit. We used it so much wouldn't have been without it.
