I have a very sharp TB exracer. I try to exercise him in the am although not always possible e.g, if its raining or the schools are booked up by people off the yard coming for lessons. This means half the week he gets schooled in the am and the other half in the pm (in no order!). Do you think this up skittles his routine too much? When do you ride?

I ride when I can fit it in, sometimes mornings, sometimes afternoons and sometimes evenings. My horse is very laid back so I don't think it bothers him. Not sure what others think but surely it is not practicle to ride at a similar time everyday.

at anytime really - after all if you ever want to compete anywhere they have to get used to just doing stuff when you want to. I have recently been waking the ned up early for a 6.30am lungeing session!

Thanks everyone. I'v tried hard to keep to the same time ish but as you said not always practical and the competing comment is true. Feel much better now, thanks again!

The ex racer's tend to like routine as they generally have a strict routine when training to race. In saying that I doubt it would take much of an edge of his sharpness, he might just settle quicker to what he's being asked to do.

I used to ride every day at 3 pm and after a few weeks my horse twigged and would do a runner if I turned up with a headcollar at 2.30.... any other time she would come over to me. Needless to say the riding routine went out the window pretty quickly!

Contrary to popular belief, you can ride when it rains
