With the Gt Yorkshire show and the CLA Game Fair canceled The next one in line is the Royal Welsh Show due to start on the 23rd.

Their web site is pretty bullish.

"The Royal Welsh Show, the UK’s biggest agricultural event, will go ahead as usual and there is no truth in rumours that it will be cancelled because of the wet weather, the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society said today."

But we have 12 days of possible wet weather between now and the 23rd. Hmmmmmmm.......

anyone who has ever been to the royal welsh will know that the usual way of going is 2 ft deep in mud. The horse lorry park is on a hill so water will run down off it,stabling is on hard standing and the main ring has had thousands of pounds worth of drainage installed. They have lorry loads of horses coming over from the continent to compete so no, they wont be cancelling.

The Royal Welsh won't cancel. After the uproar when it was cancelled in January 2001 due to F&M, there is no way they will cancel two weeks before it is due to be held.

I live seven miles from the showground and the biggest concern is the fields for parking for the Park & Ride. People have been clearing silage like crazy these last few days so should be ok.

As for seeing animals running in mud, the main ring has a special surface now that should hopefully stand up to the task. It certainly did last year in not too dissimilar conditions.

Guess we should all pack our wellies and waterproofs!

Are the animals being dropped into it by helicopter then? :D can't see there not being any mud en route.

It's such a shame but the last time I went to that show and it wasnt a muddy wash out was close to a decade ago, maybe more!

Fantastic show, the cattle lines are superb. Plenty of things to watch aside from livestock. Excellent shopping and food.

The atmosphere on stallion day is electric and if you like Welsh D's this is the place to see them.

It's a fair walk from lorry park if you are competing.

We have been pulled and off in both the lorry and as spectators in the car, but it's a fabulous show and with the main ring drainage this year should be well worth a visit.

Some of the main ring attractions can involve heavy machinery - think last year was the Dancing Diggers ?? - and unfortunately it's still not up to coping well with those after a day or two ...Great to watch tho just feel sorry for the handlers trying to run in the mud, especially with the Sec D Stallions :D

Wellies and shorts will be packed

Fab show, can't wait. Yep it will be muddy but they have tracks on the fields etc or tractors. The cob people are brill and so cheerful a little mud will not get in there way!

I see the cost of cancelling the Gt Yorkshire show is estaimaed at £2m+ and the CLA is £3.8m+

You can see why the RWAS and their chief exec David Walters have been bullish about the show going ahead regardless of the weather.

I guess the final say will be with the insurers and their H&S people.
