I've just this weekend started using a home made one (thank you to a certain publication )
Take a fillet string, thread it through the saddle D rings and make a BIG knot at the top the top!
It's much easier to keep hold constantly than say a neck strap or "oh ****!" strap - of which I've used both and both are good, but I find restrictive to hold all the time
Hi
I got one for riding a youngster- I tried putting on a neck strap but in an emergency moment there is no way I have the presence of mind or inclination to lean forward and fiddle around looking for a neck strap. I dont think it would stop me coming off in a full force eject (when physics dictates a flying exit!) but I have felt it come into effect on 2 or 3 occasions. Not sure I was going to fall off but it stopped my socking the horse in the mouth and if I had been further off balance before the RS TOR kicked in the horse may have followed up with a buck etc. You hold it in your hand just like a stick so you dont notice it.
My horse Fred (sorry to latch onto this post) I am new to forum and using an iPhone so can't contact you direct. You came up on google regarding the horse simulator in Ammanford. Can you provide me with contact details. Have had a real confidence knock and hope it might help!?
I bought one at Blenhiem and have used it a couple of times, my youngster bucks as he naps, & I am hoping the RStor will allow me to keep his head up by keeping my hands in the normal position rather than fixed at his neck with the neck strap. Time will tell. DD I wish I'd seen your post before Blenheim.
I made my own, just cut an old lead rope (the flat kind like a dog lead) to shorten it to the desired length and tie a knot in the end, then clip to the D ring (whichever side you hold it on).
They are brilliant, much better than a neck strap as you can hold without interfering with your normal riding position. Mine has given me the confidence to get on with doing things which can make my cheeky horse start bouncing, like riding in big fields or working in at competitions. The increase in my confidence then improves my horse's behaviour.
