RSPCA fail again !!

without wanting to be stoned... whilst we are all bringing up the cases where they have been rubbish, what about the success cases, and the people that HAVE been prosocuted?

i think half the problem where horses come in to it, is that the inspectors just dont enough about horses to be able to make the right decisions.

Now that I completely agree with. Where horses are concerned, I liken most RSPCA Inspectors in a similar vein to some of those do-gooder Social Workers...they may mean well, but they often come to the wrong conclusion.
 
somebody needs to explaine to them that horses, can suffer from most things that us humans can, and they also need to be told what to look for in horses, ie feet, starvation ect, they also need to be more educated in to just how much theses animals can feel, sence and how intelligent they are. they remember things for a life time. be it starvation or a beating.

Well done for saving the pony. I sure am grateful I don’t have any neighbours like the horrible people you described.

Now you have said you were only 17 at the time of the dog incident, I do think the local RSPCA people should have been severely castigated for leaving you to deal with it.

With the pony, at that time not even a Local Authority Inspector or a police constable was meant to interfere unless they had reason to believe the pony had been caused harm. An RSPCA Inspector has no more rights than any member of the public, both then, and now under the Animal Welfare Act. If anything he should have called a vet.

It does look as though RSPCA inspectors are not adequately selected or trained for equine duties. I do not know whether they train separate inspectors for large animals, but I get the impression they do not. It seems to me that they need to divorce the large animal side from the pussy cat/ bow wow/fluffy bunny side, and have equine trained people. I also get the impression that their trainees get more training in how to deal with hostile people, than perhaps how to deal with animals. Although this is probably very necessary, from the hostility shown even on these forums.

Alternatively, it would be nice if they would bow out of the equine side, and leave it to the likes of ILPH. The ILPH already have 16 Field Officers around the UK, and some people have mentioned calling them out, apparently with good results. Could the ILPH be persuaded to take on prosecution work? I notice that the ILPH and RSPCA often attend together to a distressed animal, with no mention in reports of the police or a Local Authority Inspector being involved. Could someone explain why? The RSPCA seem to be using their legal team, when, as in other criminal cases, the Police+Local Authority+Crown Prosecution Service could be doing the work.

In mitigation for any charity, the inspectors and field officers are in an invidious position. The chances are that at least one side is going to be hostile; maybe even both sides, and tempers may run high. We can read on these forums stories of people being annoyed that the RSPCA did not react when contacted, and then stories where people are annoyed that the RSPCA did visit an animal following a complaint from someone. So either way, one partly is going to feel aggrieved, and the RSPCA is going to be castigated. And apparently they have 70 applicants for every vacancy!

(The original was “sleeping” with the enemy, but I don’t want to get accused of sexual harassment!) There is a lot of controversy over social services. Much more than there is over the RSPCA!

Unfortunately this is not evidence, merely assertion by a pressure group. This is a similar situation to the false memory groups, set up by people who claim that the allegations of abuse by their "adult children" are created by therapists. Given the work load of most social services child care departments it is unlikely that they are trying to create more work for themselves!

But don't forget that the regression therapy that is used to discover past abuse is exactly the same as that used to take people back to past lives!

Wonder what any judge would say if I went into court and tried to give evidence that I had suffered on the grounds that it was during a past life?
 
Regression therapy is very rarely used in this country for helping people deal with issues of childhood abuse. The percentage of historical abuse cases that get to court is minimal. Therefore your analogy does not work on either level.
