Cracking response by the RSPCA this morning - my 2 horses were out and the field flooded overnight (this happens often, but is usually accompanied by a floodwatch warning and wasnt) .

I would like to say at this point that the 2 horses in question are both rugged to the max, warm, happy living out and look VERY well in themselves

Last night there was no warning so I arrived this morning to a part flooded field (as in, there was islands of dry which the neds were standing on, and where there is water, it is about4 inches deep) and 2 horses in it

I of course, went to get them in. Unfortunately the older and wiser of the pair decided he didnt fancy a day in the top paddock and wanted to stay put - galloping round etc. Rather than play silly buggers for an hour I left my youngster with him and called his owner who said she would have a go.

She arrived an hour later, he was the same, and so she took my youngster out with the hope that silly pony would want to come in.

She left him for 1/2 an hour, and called another livery and asked her to have a go.

Other livery arrived 1/2 an hour later to my landlord in a flap as the council had called him saying there was a horse in 'serious destress' in a 'very flooded' field and could he do something about it?! I also had an immediate response to the 'highly destressed' animal from the RSPCA!!!!

FFS!!! They have been to the yard, in my stables etc.

Thankfully they were actually laughing when they called me as I explained the situation, and said all the horses looked happy and well and offered to lend me her dry suit (which I thought was very nice) BUT I do find it funny that the response time of the RSPCA was 1/2 an hour, and whenever I have called them in the past they have taken days to arrive and have failed on every turn - even down to letting someone banned from keeping horses still keep his horses, to not turning up when I called them about the 1 acre field with about 6 youngsters in it all underweight!!!

It seems that they love a drama/publicity opportunity and the chance to save a 'distressed horse' from a 'flooded field' and get some valuable press coverage was too much to bear so they rushed round (and didnt even get to see the 'distressed horse' as he decided to come in)

I am also slightly traumatised that people felt the need to call the RSPCA/council but not walk 200m up the road to the yard to see if anyone was about? What has happened to the world!!!

They always turn up if there might be some publicity in for them!! Pitty the ones around here didnt respond that quick when i called them about that freezing foal that died, mind you the owner giving them a complete load of CR*P didnt help!!
I would never call them again, do something myself or call someone who cares instead!!

He was already in! Leaving him on his own did the trick and he came running over (obviously traumatised) about 10 mins before they arrived!

omg you must be highly distressed and traumatised, I would be,
we have a field that borders a lane and it is just used for all our stabled horses as turnout for a couple of hours, the field is sectioned off and top fields will be re opened ready for summer grazing. it looks a mess as it is so muddy at this time of year
I was driving passed the other day and they were all waiting at the gate to come in, we have a system going where we can just open gate and leave 3 or 4 trot up at a time (all enclosed yard)

I thought to myself if anyone saw them they would think that they are neglected in a field like that and all waiting at the gate (we get them in same time every day) but they are all in fantastic condition some are a tad to tubby.

I hate people who interfere, get their fact right first.

they should be giving that person a bollocking for wasting their time.
