Right I don't rant often so please forgive me.

We rung them as we know there is a horse at risk from EAM after being grazed in a field which has killed 2 horses and YO has been told to NEVER graze equines there again. In fact he was told this after the first death, had he listened my beautiful Koko would probably still be here today.

YO has been pressuring people to turn horses out there to save his other fields for new liveries. Everyone refused except for one idiot.

So we rung RSPCA as there is a horse at risk, this is what we get:

"If the horse looks ill ring us again."
"By the time the horse looks ill it will be too late, he'll die."
"Well that's not our problem."

It is their bloody problem!! That's what they're there for! It's ridiculous.

They are honestly, as an organisation, a waste of space and money.

And breathe..

Some people just are so stupid,

does the person whose horse it is in the field know 2 horse were killed there?

I cant believe the RSCPA cant be bothered to do anything about it as you know fine well what can happen from horse grazing in there :(

hope it gets sorted :)

Well I know the RSPCA are useless at the best of times but they will say there's a potential risk. I'd have expected better from the owner TBH

The RSPCA are a waste of space, why do you still keep a horse on that yard if their negligence led to a death of your other horse? and they are willing to put other horses on there?

As for the RPSCA, unfortunately theyre usless.
I myself rang up a few years ago as the pony i bought was in a very bad way and there was a field of other ones!! They came to see mine, and said yes she was in a ridiculous state and she was more than they require to file a case against people. They went to the yard, heard nothing...months later...i ring back...
oh the horses had access to some water in a bath tub, so nothing we can do.

Ignoring the fact that these horses are turned out 24/7 with no grass, its a mud paddock, no hay, barbed wire, barely any water, stallions, mares etc all together, no vets, no farriers, no worming, no nothing....

If they couldnt do anything in that situation, i would never bother ringing them again myself as i have now heard this family have been reported many times and to no interest by the rspca.

I've moved yards, I don't even want to associate myself with the awful place. With a YO who doesn't give a damn about horses and KRAP owners I couldn't wait to leave.

Tbh I do wonder if the YO would have put horses out there if I was still there.

They were both there the day Koko died and saw the way the disease took him, they saw how he turned from a fit and healthy horse to quivering, underweight and cold-sweaty horse with his legs buckling within hours.

Anyone who would EVER want to risk this on there horse deserves to feel the pain that Koko went through and the heartbreak my family and I had when he died. Of course he probably won't feel that as he obviously does not give a damn about his horse.

But the RSPCA just take the pi$$. WHW and BHS don't want to know, I have a friend who works for DEFRA though and she is trying to get the horse removed.

Can't I get in trouble for wasting time?

Just found out some horrible news,
Koko wasn't the 2nd to die out there but the 3rd!! If the YO cared to disclose this info with me I would have never of turned him out there!

I can't get over to everyone how much research you need to do before you choose a field. I used to blame myself for Koko's death but now I am furious at YO.

That's disgusting Koko. You know if you were that way inclined I would take legal action against him for knowingly putting your horse at risk.... As a YO he has duty of care over all the horses on his land.

I totally agree that this situation sucks and I'm really not the RSPCA's biggest fan. However, I can kind of see their predicament here. Seizing someone's property (the horse) because something might happen wouldn't leave them a leg to stand on legally.

Are you absolutely, 100% sure that the owner of the horse knows of the history of the field and the danger it poses? I would concentrate on contacting them (possibly indirectly) in order to resolve the situation. I really hope all goes well. It must be so difficult for you seeing another horse there. :(

The owner knows the risks, he was there the day Koko died and I explained to him how it was caused by the field and another horse died out there.

Legal action is a thought but don't know where to start, YO honestly doesn't care and I don't think he should be allowed to own a yard. I can think of so many things wrong with it from a contaminated muck heap to illegal bonfires and health and safety wise there isn't any fire procedure or precations against a fire. We didn't even have a fire assembly point and its a fairly large yard.

Oh koko my heart goes out to you, losing a horse so suddenly and in such a horrible way must have been awful. I got tears in my eyes thinking about it. Hope you are coming to terms with it and please don't blame yourself.

In regards to what you can do about the yard, I have no ideas, but if there are illegal fires and potentially fatal risks can you inform local police :S
