Rte investigates..making a killing

The ideal thing is that slaughter houses exist for the unwanted horses and people like us who actually care work there.
I remember reading a piece about a slaughterhouse in the West Country that had a lot of horses through the door. They asked the man who shot them how he could do it day after day when he obviously loved horses so much and he said that's why I do because I can make sure they have a quick, calm and dignified death

I took two ponies to Potters at Bristol back in the 80's and can honestly say it was an ok experience in as much as these things can be. There were a lot of ponies in pens waiting and they were all calm and unbothered. Had to lead mine past them and in to the killing chamber. Mine were no more worried than they would have been in any other strange place and there was absolutely no smell which surprised me. I just led them in then ran and they were immediately put down. I wish all slaughter houses were equally good.
