Come to the Heart of England Endurance Group Quiz Night - 19th April at Belbroughton - just off J4 of the M5!
The Heart of England EGB Group is holding a Quiz Night and fundraiser for an injured local farrier Matt Allen on 19th April. Teams of 4, £10 per person (food included) and we'll quiz match you into a team if you haven't one ready made.
As we need numbers for food tickets are pre-booked (application form on group website - www.endurancehorseriding.co.uk).
A keen country sportsman Matt has also helped and supported our endurance group's members over the years. Matt came along to our group farriery talk as glamourous assistant to his former lecturer Slym Symmons and has shod our endurance horses since his time as an apprentice. He's also proved to be an invaluable support crewing for group members on Exmoor at the Golden Horseshoe Ride (where he's been great company for us as well as a fountain of Exmoor knowledge) as well as making the trip over the Irish Sea to the Home International in Donard in 2012. Not only was Matt part of the crew for Sally Farrall and Silvretta Grand Marnier he also gave invaluable support and assistance to any members of the winning England Team who needed his farriery expertise.
Soon after qualifying in 2009 Matt took the plunge and set up his own business, quickly establishing a loyal clientelle. However, earlier this year he suffered a kick to the head whilst shoeing and has been in a coma in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham with a serious head injury for a number of weeks. He's just moved to Moseley Hall in Birmingham this week to start his rehab in earnest - but he's 70 miles away from his home, parents and girlfriend - and it's going to be a long slow road to recovery.
His mum has been updating his facebook page - search for "Matt Allen" with progress updates for all his firends and supporters and it's amazing how many friends are reading, liking, and willing him on - at the moment all the coments are being read to him - hopefully he'll soon be reading them for himself!
We all rely on our farriers/trimmers and our crew to help us enjoy our horses and our sport and the the Heart of England Endurance Group Committee has decided to help support Matt and his family financially by donating the proceeds of our quiz night and raffle on 19th April to his recovery fund. It would be lovely to see as many people as possible on 19th - whether you are a participant in the sport of endurance or not!
