So i have a relatively new horse who goes in a rubber snaffle, linked, straight, french linked.. but after a few weeks he seems to gnaw through to the mental core or bite on the link and make it so it cant be used because of sticking out plastic..... he needs a rubber bit because.. well he just does! doesn't go well in a metal bit at all. I know it is possible to buy silicone bandaging to wrap round the bit, but wouldn't it make the bit wider? he has a large toung!

help please!!
:)

Why does he need rubber bits? Is it because of cold metal? If so, try either salox (Neue Schule) or sweet iron/copper mix maybe?
If he has a big tongue, he might struggle with Happy Mouth as they are not that thin... Nathe might be a better option as they are silicone type thingy and although softer to touch, actually more robust than Happy Mouth.

Mine has a very very thick tongue which leaves little room in his mouth, so I have had to work back from that - he has ended up with a NS loose ring snaflle with lozenge and the same but in a hanging snaffle which I swap from time to time, jumped in a fulmer NS gag with lozenge. He too chewed his rubber bits but the NS seems to work with him and being a little thinner gives him a bit more room in his mouth. He actually has a really good mouth and mouths well now as well.

Teeth aren't due for a while according to teeth man.. he is just a muncher.. lol.
Tried NS bit just the other day and he was having non of it.. always been in rubber.. bit he came in was 4.5" (his size is 5.25") but he didnt manage to munch on that! weird...
