I have got through 2 loose ring peanut snaffles in 4 months- horsey keeps chewing through them- is this normal? are there any longer lasting ones as its costing me a fortune in buts. She is always ridden in it and likes the rubber as she goes quite well (after a 15 min argument lol)

Any opinions advice taken on board thanks

Have you had your horses teeth checked? Might be a bit sharpe?? I used to use rubber bits for bitting youngsters and found one side wore down and teeth were a little Sharpe on that side? worth a look?

Excellent *rubs hands with glee* we get to sell you lots of bits!!

Some horses will never chew through them, and others you can go out for a hack and the little darling has munched straight through on the way round.

Unless you are getting super results, I'd try a different material (metal!)

If you horse eats flexi / applemouth (only material that comes in peanut variety), your horse will probably also eat nathe, vulcanite coverings and rubber.

My youngster chewed through her first very soft rubber bit in about 40 minutes. She made significant inroads in her first happy mouth type peanut bit in about the same time. I was most unimpressed. I got a sharp knife and cut off the damaged parts as she'd chewed the plastic nearest to the centre. I made sure it was all smooth and she hasn't chewed it any worse. I only needed to take a little piece off each side.

She seems to play with her bit and if she can catch it with her teeth she will bite it, if there's nothing there for her to catch she can't, I'd say she's quieter in her mouth now she hasn't the temptation.
