Ok, so I'm building a sand and rubber crumb (very small pieces of recycled rubber) arena and I'm lead to believe it is usual to have 4" sand and 2" rubber. My only concern is that I currently have the rubber sitting in a big pile and when I walk/stand on it it feels very springy! I know that is the purpose of the rubber but my concern is that my horse will be pinging around like tigger!! Seriously though, will I end up jumping 1m 40 in the arena but then the horses go 'flat' on other surfaces?
Would less than the 2" be better? If any of you have any experience of this type of surface any advice would be greatfully received as it is a big investment and I want to get it right!

The rubber will mix in over time. If you want it more consistent (yes it will bounce if not mixed in!) then you can harrow it in right from the start. In your situation I think that's what I would do. You can hire a big rotovator to do it yourself.

Ok thanks for that. I'll try and get it well mixed from the start. I was given the rubber so it's a case of using what I've got rather than choosing to purchase a certain type.
