I'm thinking of getting some to make a pathway down to my bottom fields and to use in the gateways.

has anyone done this, can you recommend a supplier?

Seen some on ebay that look suitable.

Sorry to hijack the thread...but do you think the Fieldguard honeycombed ones could be put down in a field with a couple of inches of mud...to feed hay from? Or would they sink without trace?

I have just bought some off ebay, they arrived in two days. Obviously I can't report on them yet, but they seem very reasonable quality. I got them from carpetpac

I'd also be keen on getting some of that mesh stuff as my field shelter is in a wood and the ground around it is now a bog.

Too late now as mesh would just disappear.

Spoke to McVeigh Parker at a county show in the summer. They sell equipment for farms and horses. They said this stuff needs to be laid over a membrane really as otherwise if the ground is really boggy it will just sink in and disappear. Chap said the best thing to do in the situation is to lay a membrane first, then put the rubber mesh down, then infil with gravel or chopped stone.

This is way beyond my budget though unfortunately.

I have wood chippings down in a paddock all around my Field Shelter and although they stop the mud, they can become very soft and wet when we have the amount of rain we have had over the last few days. I already had 2 pieces of the honeycomb matting outside the FS and this is holding up really well and have now added my spare bit as well as it was getting so soft, this has been down a couple of days now and it is holding up well too so far! Not too sure what they would be like in a very deep muddly gateway tho!

Fieldguard are very helpful and I find them to be honest, so they won't mind if you give them a call. I have all their electric fencing (14 years old some of it and still going strong) and ealier this year I bought their none drain rubber matting - I wanted to stop my old boy slipping when he lies down or rolls in his stable (regardless of a 9 inch shavings bed!!!) and this has made him a very happy boy, as he can now roll to his hearts content when he comes in wet wet wet and does not slip! Mind you if he stood in the FS he would not come in so wet
