I have had 2 lots from Field Guard, they are excellent, they have a wide range of mats of varying prices which all do something slightly different (i.e. some need no bedding on top) and they are very helpful if you need to call for a chat!

I have used a company called Horsemat. Found them online. We got mats from them for out mare last year. I decided to change mine as I had heavy old ones so we went with this company again.
They were really helpful and had a planning service.

i got mine for free! i went to my local ice rink, as noticed they have the same type of rubber matting in their bit where you put skates on, and they gave me 4 slabs of it and that did my whole stable, it doesnt move, its nice and thick and has been down for over a year now, and i think its better than equestrian specific ones!

goneshowjumping - thats it i'm going to the ice rink, that sounds like a good idea, but doubt they'd give me lol

Might sound like a strange question, but is there a quarry near you?? My mats are just lengths of old quarry conveyor belts - apparently they are always replacing the belts and are happy to give the stuff away. Both sides are entirely smooth, but my horse (and many others on yard) seems to have plenty of grip, and they are nice and easy to sweep!

i've matted out 3 yards now (new buyers have always bought them!) and have mayomats cowmats, they are definitely thicker and warmer with a bit more give than the rubber mats. much lighter to move around too, if you need to. i won't go back to the other types now. mine have been down 3 yrs and are as new.

I can't recommend equimats enough. They are little more expensive than normal matting but they lock together like jigsaw pieces, so they don't shift. They are very light as well, one person can easily lift a 3' x 4' sheet, ideal when you want to any spring cleaning! If you suppy your stable's exact measurements they'll cut them to size and send you the left overs too!!

I use cowmats much cheaper and lighter and my big boys dont slip or move them about. They have been down 5 years now and they are still in good shape.
