How thick is your matting?
Have looked on ebay for some and it varies between 10mm up to 20mm, but i have been advised not to buy the 20mm as it creeps up the stable walls in hot weather!?
I would also like to know what pattern people have, and if you are happy with it, or wish you had gone for a different type.
Thanks in advance

Never heard of that before. I always leave a gap of about 1 inch the whole way around each stable and this works great. All in, I have had 19 stables fitted out like this and never saw what he is telling you.

I think he is having you on LOL!!

No none of mine were ever sealed to the wall. That was the advice I was given when I installed them. The reasoning being that the seal eventually gives and you end up with all sorts of crud under there and if for any reason you need to change or take the mats back out then it would be difficult to do. That's what I was told anyway.

The 15 stables I had in England were decked out like this for 10 years and I never had any trouble with them. What make of rubber matting are you going for?

I use equimats - have got four interlocking 28mm ones as Bloss used to get really stiff standing in and her legs used to fill lots. Now her legs dont fill so badly and shes not so stiff either. They are definately worth the money.

Seabiscuit has got some too.

Mine is Kraiburg and I think it is 18mm, very heavy and stays in place, fitted right up to the edges of the box. I have never sealed any of mine and not had any problems. There are about 15 boxes on our yard with rubber and none of them are sealed.

At my last yard we laid arubba thick matting in our 3 stables laid right to the walls and it has never moved.
Others at the yard put down a thiner versionand it has been dug up and has moved.
IMHO go for the thickest you can.

I have 30mm cow mats. They come to within about half to one inch of the wall all the way round, and fitter used little spacer blocks (ofcuts of mat) between mat and wall to stop them moving. These can be removed and trimmed if mats start to expand slightly in hot weather. Have had these down for 4 years and hardly worn at all, and much cheaper than branded horsy mats. They are warm, slightly soft underfoot, and have banks and a 2" shavings bed on top. Would not be without them as can muck out 3 horses in 1/2 hour.
