I currently have some fairly lightweight rubber mats down in my mare's stable, which do not have any means of slotting together. She is a big horse who is very nosey and so is constantly walking from her hay to the door to watch the world go by. She has very fine shavings as her bedding on top of the mats and everyday we have problems with the shavings having got under the matting, pushing the matting up and tearing them. It happens so often I'm starting to wonder if she lies there stuffing the shavings under the mats just to annoy us ;)

Anyway, I am wondering if any of you have any recommendations for stable matting, particularly that has worked well for messy horses on shavings. I guess that heavier matting that locks together would be a good idea, but suggestions would be much appreciated :)

Personally I prefer the heavy mats cut to tightly fit your stable. Stuff (mainly wet) will still get under, but I've had mine 8 years and if I lift them once a year that's all and my stable doesn't smell. I use megazorb on top and I find shavings not absorbant enough.

They sell my mats in Robinsons... They have large round bobbles on the bottom (don't get the ones with grooves, that only works if you can line them up and you stable drains that way. The bobbles allow flow in every direction).
