I would like to fit out my stable with rubber matting but have never had to do that before - so does anyone have any comments/suggestions/recommendations please?

The only thing I know is that the matting should be min 18mm thick??? I think the stable is about 12' x 14' although I have yet to measure it

BTW - in Stable Yard everyone has said 'equimats'

I have checked the website and it says £400 - I am hoping someone will miraculously suggest something costing £2.50

I have similar to equimats, they are by horse comfort and are EVA and 24mm thick, they just don't interlock. Very hard wearing, lightweigt and easy to clean. I've had mine for 7 years now and they have been my best horsey investment [apart from my saddle!].

I am about to get some, cant recall where from as it's been arranged by a fellow livery, but google search the same thickness in cattle mats and you should see a serious price reduction. My 12x12 ish box is going to cost £80 and the only difference is that it has a cow logo on as opposed to a horse logo.

edited as my typing was seriously bad!

Now THAT is the sort of post I was hoping for Mavis

Wow £80 would be a dream

I shall measure his stable over the weekend, if anyone has any names of websites for EVA cattle matting then they would be HUGELY appreciated

I got mine about 8 years ago from Robinsons of all places! They are the really heavy ones with small bumps on top and ridges underneath. The cheaper ones with big bumps (does that make sense!) are buggers to keep clean. I recently priced up some from local saddler to finish Joes stable - he only has 2 at the front at the moment and they were about £40 each for decent mats, For a 12x14 you will need 7 as you will have to cut one for the extra 2'. Equimats are great - lightweight etc but pricey!

Ditto - as in they are fantastic.

I've got ones called Mayomats (I think).

They are brill and light enough to be able to lift them myself to clean in the summer. They have huge circles underneath and wee bumps on top.

Have got them for both my horses. Cost about £50 each for the really thick ones though!!

Now I am just looking at MayoMats on the internet and it says £75 for a 6' x 4' mat? God I never knew this would be so complicated

I stole mine from OH's cows!!!!!! (don't call animal welfare just yet, he had some extra, I didn't leave poor Daisy lying on concrete

).
Ours are CowComfort ones. As someone mentioned, the Agricultural ones will more than likely come in cheaper than the Equine ones

Just the 24mm, absolutely fine. I have a 15.1hh rather round

coblet on them. Used to have my 16.3hh IDxTB on same mats, plenty thick enough. I can't personally talk about the other types of mats, but I used to work for a company who sold the Cowcomfort ones and they are very good quality. Suppose its like everything in this world, but not all mats are the same. Although at 24mm they may not be as deep as others, but they are dense, and don't spread at all. They are light enough to be easy to lift and move around for cleaning (although I always manage to have one fall/ brush against me and then stink of stale wee

I had a company called woody pets (i think) come out to deliver and fit 6 mats in my stable which at the time was 12x12, they are pimpled on top, grooved underneath 6x4 each mat and have a 10yr guarantee, i am more than pleased with mine these last few years, the one down side is they are fairly heavy and awkward.

On grassmats.co.uk they do 6ft x 4ft and 17mm thick stable mats for 24.50 incl. VAT and you need 6 mats for 12 x 12 stable - works out at £147 for whole stables - bit less than equimats which cost £396 for a 12 x 12 stable (according to the equimat website.)
