OH were having a discussion on rubber matting.Would you put the ridged ribbed side up or the'bobbly' side up?
OH and I think ribbed side up so urine would be easier to sweep out urine etc.
Having never used rubber matting may be wrong and it probably wouldn't matter either way really, just random curiosity.
Thanks

Agree with bobbly side on the top and ribbed side underneath so if wee get underneath can run down channels as girl at our yard put her matting down with the channels on the top and the wet actually just collected and she had terrible trouble keeping it clean and free of smells.

I've got both! Channels on top are certainly easier to clean and our boxes don't have level/sloping floors, they're a bit of a mish mash being an old shippon. The ones bubbles up aren't too bad to clean either and do give a bit more grip particularly if you don't use much bedding. Depends to a certain extent which type horses you have and whether they need help to get up (arthritic?) I actually took mats out of 2 stables yesterday as they caused more problems than they solved!

Meant to say, that either way, because of our uneven floors, wee couldn't get away properly either way up so now our boxes only have matting in the centre of the boxes, makes life much simpler and the boxes don't smell as they did when they had been fitted.

I'd have thought the shavings (if horse is on shavings) would just clog in the channels and smell of wee constantly. Can't imagine that'd work too well.

I have mine bobble side up. The channels are all aimed towards the drainage holes in the stable walls to facilitate urine running away from under them. Of course, it doesn't work completely and they are rather "wiffy" underneath them if you don't get them up regularly to clean, which is a mammoth task in itself as they're so heavy and cumbersome to move about.

If I had unlimited funds and was starting again, I would have pour on rubber matting fitted to my stables to prevent urine running through underneath individual mats.
