Anyone do this and does it work or do you find you still need to put a "proper" bed down but just a bit thinner than normal? Also any pics at all?

I like to have a reasonable amount of bedding down - a minimum of 1 bale of shavings anyway.

In the winter I have a more substantial bed - but still do a full muck out every day.

i just put a bucket full of sawdust on my rubber mats and it get sweeped out in the morning it works great saves me a fortune and horses are happy to lie down and and pee on it.

Plenty of people do this, just a small sprinkle of shavings down to catch the pee. Personally i put a bed down as otherwise horse and rugs get pretty stinky

Yes the pee and stink is the reason why I have a good amount of shavings down. Otherwise the stable is just 'awash'.

Oh my man (horse not man, if you know what i mean!!) would hate that, if ther's not enought bed down he stamps the floor to say he needs more bedding (that's when i think there's....just enough).
He doesn't like to pee and have it splash up his legs!!!!!! Sensitive soul but i love him.

Don't do it with a light coloured horse!
Well, you could, but horsey would need to live in a t/o rug or you'd never get the stains off.
We're off to a show next month where the stabling is mats and just a sprinkkle of shavings - will be taking my own bedding, grey mare does not need an excuse to get covered in poo!

I do this otherwise I would end up putting in a new bag every other day! My lad likes to trample it all in as well so the only clean shavings left are the bankings!

Girl on our yard has 2 horses on rubber mats and uses 1 bag of Nedz a week between them.
The stables stink, the rugs stink in winter and one of them has a permanent sore/rub on the point of his hock.

When she turns them into the manege for a leg stretch, they lie down!!
