Bert finally got his stable today, we moved yards a week ago and due to us being a week early we have been waiting for our stable (not such a problem as Bert has issues with enclosed spaces!) Anyway we are lucky enough to have a stable on one of the small yardsand there are just two of us, the farm is made up of about 5 maller yards, and our new yard can be closed off allowing Bert to go in the stable or wander the yard and not feel like he is trapped. (he is sharing with i lovely little shettie)
As he has to have a paper bedding I was looking to get rubber matting and wondered who recommend which mat? I like the deeper cushioned stuff but don't know which manufacturer makes this. Any suggestions and ideas on pricing would be greatly appreciated. The stable is about 11 x 11.

Also does anyone have any experience of shredded cardboard as a bedding?!?!?! Am fed up of the paper blowing around as the stable door has to stay open.

i have rubber matting for a 12x12 stable,it was from a manufacturer called woody pets who delivered and fitted it,has a 10yr guarantee on it,so worth every penny in my opinion,i needed 6mats for mine, with a bit of trimming, came to just under £250 in all but a great investment i think, given i only have to use one bale of shavings a week.
hope that helps

A few of my friends have just invested in the thicker rubber matting from robinsons and that is lovely and cusioned, thus ther use hardly any bedding. It is also light enough to lift when needed. I have the older 'pimple' type which is O.K. but not as nice, too heavy to lift and need a reasonal bed as quite hard.

The cardboard bedding will probably be easier (and Cheaper) than the paper bedding that you are having to use.

They bed down all of the horses at loughton on it, and they do at Oakham vets too. If its a thick bed it seems really comfy, and obviously non dusty which is what Bert needs. Its not that absorbant but neither is paper.

Rubber mats are great though and will help keep bedding costs down.

I have EquiMats and they are fab. I've got the extra thick ones (think they are called Super Soft) and I wouldn't be without them.

They're not cheap but well worth it in the long run.
