Hi

At my yard we dont have rubber matting. We have deep litter. A few of us are thinking out having rubber matting, I just wanted to know what type you have? Also what does it cost to put down in an average 12 x 12 stable?

Also If we did get it what is the normal way of mucking out with it? We could use shavings with it, and how often should you wash the mats?

I have equimats, I think it was verging on £500 for the stable, this was a few years back though, and it was the 30mm ones. I rarely lift and wash mine, they are sooo heavy and usually stink! I muck it out like normal.

Hello, we have Fieldgaurd stable mats. Cost around £300 per stable. They have minimal but decent beds on them and are washed once a year. Expensive, but excellent, and well up to the wear and tear of the big horses on my yard.

Over here I have cowmats and they are great, although they aren't particularly cheap at 500 per stable.

In the UK I had Fieldguard and HorseComfort mats - both were great. Fieldguard was about 300 per stable as they were in 12 x 12's. Can't give a price for the HorseComfort as they were used for the much larger stables.

I haggled like a diva and got mine for £24 a mat if I was willing to collect them from the factory and fit them myself.

I have a handful of straw in one corner and wash it off with a bucket once a week to keep it clean.

I've just bought mats at £21.50 each off ebay; 12 X 12 stable cost £129 + delivery.
They are only 10mm, but they aren't going anywhere! I put 18mm (standard) in my other stable, they were loads more expensive and a lot heavier.....but I would always go for the 10mm now. They are also easier to fit, because they are lighter. If you were worried about durability you could always put a 18mm down in the doorway.
I use a full straw bed on them, and muck out as normal. I put them down because my horse digs up his bed to roll, and I didn't want him to scuff himself on the concrete.

They were really good to deal with and I collected myself but wasn't a lot to have them deliverd. They are 17mm and 6' *4'. They weigh a ton!

I muck out as usual and have less bed then without but still a reasonable bed. I wash every saturday but don't move them at all.
I am well impressed with them

A friend of mine has a pony on 10mm mates & they are alright for him but I had a 16h2" horse on similar & they started to break up.

Basically if you have a horse don't have anything less than 17-18mm thick. They are heavy enough not to wear, they don't move at all if you fit correctly & they are easy to muck out on & keep clean. I've had mine for 2 years & are just like new.

This link will sell 18mm mats at £23.99 & carriage (which depends on where you live) so £150 + carriage for a 12'x12' stable (6 mats). Fitting is quite easy as well.

I have Equimats at about £350 for delivery. Literally sweep it out and takes like 5 mins. I use shavings for banks

I assume you remove all shavings when you are washing them out, then do you hose over them or do you take them out of the stable and wash down the entire stable floor??

and how often do you wash them?

If the draining is good on your stable floor you possibly need to remove the mats once a year to hose out underneath. Ours don't smell at all, we wash them over once a week but if it's really wet & cold we sprinkle Jeyes ''Freshbin' powder on them, leave for a while & brush off. This type of jeyes is a powder, comes in a cylinder & is used for freshening up dustbins. It really does the job.

I think the draining in the stable is bad, so I think i'll be going shopping for some Freshbin, as it is always wet where I live.

I think i'll earmark Saturday for powerwashing the stable - oh the joys!!!!
