I’ve recently bought some rubber matting for a winter 24/7 turn out pen for 2 Shetlands, just wondering what is best to put on top of them to stop slipping? I’m thinking maybe wood pellets would work but unsure. (They are quite playful and love a good run around)

What type is it? Is it the hard mud slabs or the soft rubber grass mats or just stable mats?

I wouldn't recommend anything wood based, it goes slippy, takes forever to rot down and stinks while it's doing it. Sand is recommended for the slabs, grass mats are pretty grippy themselves. If solid rubber I'm not sure, I might be tempted to just chuck straw onto it.

Stable mats, I’ve seen a few people use them outside before and not put anything down but my 2 love to play so they would be down within seconds if wet. I would use sand but quite worried about sand colic.
