The yard that i am at has 2 schools one is a large square sand school which people lunge in and the other one is a 60x40 rubber school my mare will not go forward in the rubber school she just plants herself a lady said to me "well she probably doesnt like the rubber"i laughed as i thoght dont be so rediculous but to be honest maybe she is right the mare refuses to canter will not do a fluent trot is completely disunited yet if she is on grass or in the other school she is fine well much better on grass than anything else also the same lady also said well she does have huge feet (she is a shire x)i also laughed at that as had horses for 40 years never heard that before so maybe she is on to something

Mine's very backward when I ride in one particular (thick rubber-surfaced) school... I thought he was just overwhelmed by what we're doing (horseball) but thinking about it, it's a similar surface to another school I once did TREC PTV in and he was really backward then too

Sadly I doubt it's the case for mine. I reckon he's just a lazy git

Mine doesn't plant but is really backward in schools where the rubber is horrible long thick strips of rubber so the surface really does make a difference!

well mine is a lazy moo if she wants to be but as soon as you take her out of the rubber school she is off on her toes at a very nice trot and went straight into canter when we went for a sneeky canter around one of the fields (the YO found out and we got suitably told off)i am 51 lol but i really wanted to do a bit of stressage in the summer but both local places have rubber arenas so i suppose thats gonna be a no no
