My show pony has a really annoying habit of sticking her tongue out unless she has a flash on. I am hoping to show her this summer & obviously will be unable to have the flash on but someone suggested fitting a rubber tongue layer to her pelham. I bought one several months ago but have never tried it on her. Has anyone ever used one? Also what is the correct way to fit it?
Thanks

Yes I did try one a few years ago, but it didnt work for me. Said evil horse learned how to flip it over so that you ended up with big fat horse tongue sticking out and a short black tongue shaped thing sticking out as well!

In terms of fitting it needs to wrap around the bit so that the 'flap' shape points back towards the horses throat (so think of the shape a super high ported pelham would have) Difficult to descibe. If you are not sure I will *try* to find my old one and take a photo of it on a bit

I've used one, but found that it was worse than useless, the horse managed to move it to one side and then chewed it, while putting his tounge over the bit!

I think they work better on jointed bits.

I ended up with a metal one in the shape of a W which was attached via a slip head and just sits behind the bit on the mouth. It didn't interact with the bit at all, and worked a treat. I tried to find a picture of one online, but failed.

Unfortunately its a bit obvious for showing though.

I tried one to stop my mare putting her tongue over the bit.

I worked on an eventing yard where one of the horses used to stick her tongue out the side of the mouth and they had a special noseband made up where they could fix a nail along the side of the mouth and so whenever she put her tongue out it got pricked. It didn't stop her though, as soon as the nail was removed she stuck it back out and obviously they couldn't use it for comps so she still stuck her tongue out during the dressage test!!!
