I have a wooden trailer floor (i think its inch thick ply) and i'm thinking of getting some rubber matting but i'm worried that i will end up rotting the wooden floor.

I dont really fancy the heavyweight option so have been looking at 10mm or under but i'm wondering if i fix it to the floor is it going to trap moisture underneath and rot the floor?

Am i being obsessive or is this a genuine problem? If it is do i just carry on with just the wooden floor and not bother with rubber matting?

Help!!!

Hi, I have a trailer with a wooden floor.
I put some rubber matting on, I thought it would help with grip, for the horse that is.

I now have a rotten trailer floor. It happened very quickly and i am very p***ed off with myself for allowing it to happen :(
I think it would only be ok if you took matting out after each trip to allow floor to dry once it had been cleaned.

A very expensive mistake to make.

My girl stands herringbone on a Rice Wooden floor.
I have a 6-4 matt with Ribbed lines and She loves the grip!

I hang the mat over the partition after every journey.

Depends how heavy the mats are and how often you travel - But if you leave it down for too long - You WILL get rotten floor. :(

Thanks everyone for your help, i've managed to find some light weight rubber matting which also lets moisture through so i'm going to use this and just take it up everytime, i'm thinking a strip on each side then i can easliy pull it up (it only ways 14kg per 6 ft by 3 ft section).

thanks again

Let the wood dry out well and paint heavily with bituminous paint ,drill a few strategic drain holes ,then put the matting down.
