I had a dilemma.

My horse came in from the field a few days ago with a patch of hair missing from his forehead.
There is a young horse in the field who plays alot so thought thats all it was.

Since then i have noticed it getting worse.

He has loads of patches missing now. They are not sore or scabby as i had thought of rainscald.

Any ideas?

Sweet itch? My pony does this - as well as scrubbing her mane and tail her face apparently also gets itchy! She gets a pink bald patch in the whorl on her forehead and under her eyes and cheekbones gets bald, sometimes with open cuts, as well as ears and top of head. It's a nightmare and is off scrubbing her face on wooden posts etc. You could try a fly mask - with my horse this makes it worse as she scrubs to get it off but may work for you. And washing with hibi scrub diluted with lots of water daily will keepit clean, then applying sudocrem before turn out as well as vaseline if she has a headcollar or muzzle left on to stop further rubbing. You can use wound powder too to keep it dry if there's open cuts. Not sure if this is the problem with your horse but hope it helps a bit! x

I'd say sweetitch too. Our pony used to itch her whorl. Aloe vera gel soothes the itch, then put a fly mask on or some anti midge cream (we used both mask and cream to be safer).

I agree with the above. My pony uses his back legs to scratch his face if it's itchy

Keeping it clean will help a lot, I wash my pony's face, slather it in cream and put a hood on him as a precaution but he does get it bad
