Before I go to the sale tomorrow just a quick question on rubber matting. If you fit rubber matting should your stable floor slope one way to a drain for the urine to run out. As far as I am aware my stable floors are level so if I fitted rubber matting would that mean all the urine would collect in a puddle under the mats?

Yes I think so. it would mean you would have to lift them and clean underneath more often. Some mats have drainage channels underneath but tbh they dont work! So dont fall for the sales patter!

They really work best if the floor drains away and there is an outlet for liquid. They get disgusting underneath otherwise.

If the stables are yours, definitely think about having a layer of concrete laid so there is a slight 'fall' or slope either to the door or remove just one brick from the back stable wall.

Try testing the floor with a bucket of water first, if it gets away fairly quickly you shouldnt have a problem.

our mats are vile! its actually gross. wish we didnt have them

Yep, that happened at my old yard with badly draining stables. Eventually the mats would sort of float on the pee and would squelch whenever you walked on them
