Hi all, my 16yo gelding travels like a weirdo in a trailer. He cannot stand up on the left side so always goes on the right. He seems to stand with his hind legs underneath him so that he can sit his fat arse on the ramp. My trailer has rubber breech straps and I cannot move them far enough forward that he can't get his bum to the ramp.
I use a tail bandage but he either rubs this off altogether or rubs it raw underneath the bandage. He has an almost completely bald dock and every time he travels he rubs it raw again and it weeps. He is not itchy in any way and it doesn't seem to bother him afterwards.
I am confused as to why he does this and upset because it looks sore and also manky. I don't have the urge to take him in the "loveliest tail" class or anything but I would really like a solution! I'm not sure if a further tail guard would stay on or be any more effective...?
