pretty much what it says in the title!!
Went to Myerscough today to do the 6 year old class. I knew it would be a little advanced for him but decided to give it a go. Having looked at the test earlier in the week I thought I'd better learn it on the way - suddenly realised I hadn't taught him to rein back yet!!
Anyway, the warm up was much better than at the regionals and he came quite a bit softer at times which was good.
However in the test we well and truly trashed the boards and it just all went to pot. (although the rein back actually went quite well!!)
I came well and truly last!!
It's days like today where I just get so frustrated and wonder why do I bother? I am riding an amazing horse who has so much talent and ability but I just feel like I keep on letting him down.
I am also thinking that perhaps I need to change his bit. he is currently ridden in quite a thin hanging cheek french link. I like the affect of the hanging cheek but I'm wondering if perhaps I need a thicker mouthpiece to try and encourage him to take the contact forwards. BUT I also need something that when he attention goes (which being a stallion happens quite a bit!)I have a bit of help to get him back.
Any ideas and morale boosting would be really appreciated...
Think I feel a gin and tonic coming on!!
