Does anyone have any advice or suggestions on how to manage this

Everything seems to be rubbing my ponio at the moment, reins, breastplate points, where my legs rest on his side, even where the edges of the numnah rest :(

He is clipped but getting baldy patches everywhere from things rubbing him!

I put vaseline on, and make sure numnahs are always clean, but it doesn't seem to help, not sure what else to do short of not riding him!

Anyone else have this problem?? :(

I know how you feel, my TB mare used to get these patches when clipped too. Not sure what causes them but I found a spray that helps with hair re growth, its called Equi-Oil and worked a treat helping her hair grow back quickly then I just used it to prevent her hair from being rubbed off again. It also treats dry skin, sweet itch etc so can be used for other things as well. Have a look on their website :) its worth a go!

My tb is just like this I use a lot of dead sheep on his breast girth on the neck strap of his martingale and on the reins. I always use a girth sleeve but he still looks like he's been eaten by moths I've just learned to live with it :(

I used to have this problem with my TB if I ever changed anything. She does tend to toughen up if I use the same reins, bit, saddlecloth but I do find I have to be really careful and sometimes when clipped she needs dead sheep stuck to reins etc. To help the hair grow back I use Eqyss Mega-Tek Rebuilder, it works really well on shoulder rubs and rubbed out manes.

The hair becomes more brittle as they change coat (some are starting to moult already) so that won't help
.

You could try a skin supplement to make sure he's in tiptop condition?

Dead sheep will be your friend. Or even just faux fur (much cheaper bit not nearly as good.)

Maybe rethink carefully about clipped him next year. His own fluff will give him protection.

Agree with the dead sheepskin, shadow sleeves on the reins, but also rub these areas with diluted meths it toughens up the skin, so whilst the hair might still rub off the skin wont become raw, also dont clip so close next time leave some hair for portection 6mm instead of 4mm.

I will invest in some sheepskin stuff to pad everything, and RCP equestrian and Lyn H I will deffo look at the treatments youve recommended, thanks for suggestions!

I will definitely be leaving more fluff on next year! It's the first winter I've clipped him and I stupidly didn't even leave a saddle patch :(
