I took Ruby to a dog show on Sunday, just a little fun local one with some friends, we thought it would be a bit of a laugh!! I got there and saw the amount of people there and thought Oh my god I cannot humiliate myself in front of all these people!! There were so many people and dogs but I had already entered so thought, oh well what the hell at least I will provide amusement...
First class was 'Working dog obedience' - she was the only puppy and 2 of them were fully trained gun dogs so I knew then that I did not stand a chance. I then found out that one of the two judges was a gundog trainer
. Anyway, we all stood in a line then one at a time the dog had to walk off the lead to heel, sit and stay whilst the owner walked to the other end of the ring then the dog was called, had to sit in front of the owner the walk to heel back to the line.
Ruby was an absolute star, I was SO proud of her, she did everything perfectly and we won!! The judges said it was because during the sit she was watching me the entire time waiting for the next command whereas the other dogs (well, the ones who actually 'stayed'
) were looking around.
I am so pleased with her.
Then she came 2nd in 'Prettiest bitch' in the novelty ring, a beautiful lab came first which was much deserved - she really was a lovely looking hound!
So, at the end of the day was the Championship which we were in for winning the obedience, there were 20 dogs in the final and I seriously considered going home as I knew I didnt stand a chance and it was quite late and Ruby was tired. But I stayed and we had to indivually walk then run up in front the judges (I did not have the appropiate bra on for running
). We did have one issue here - just before the Championship was the 'egg throwing competition' and therefore there were loads of broken eggs on the grass.... it appears that Ruby rather likes eggs
.
Anyway, we did our little show thing and then the 3 judges spoke and announced the winner... RUBY!! I couldn't believe it - I just stood there with my mouth open
, they said that she was always ready and concentrating for the next command, she walked very well on the lead and was in fantastic condition. I am just so proud of her, I know its only a little local show but I honestly did not think that I stood a chance at all.
At the end the judges said that they could see I had put in a lot of hard work with her training and that was so nice to hear.
Anyway, here are a few pics...
Coming to me after the 'stay'
Doing our walk for the judges
And after, posing with her rosettes
Look how tiny her head looks...
