So as per a previous post have found a pony and paid deposit. All agreed by sat pm. We were due to see another on sunday pm. So as soon as I paid deposit I text sunday's horse to say we would not be coming as had found a pony and good luck with sale.

I got a rude text back this afternoon. Thanking me for waking her up (can only assume my text sat in server etc overnight). Then Saying she had queues of people for pony but had not booked any as we were going to view, Sarcastically said thanks for putting yourself first!

Not sure what else I could have done? Surely I would have been a timewaster to go and view with no intension of buying? Did she expect I would not view other ponies? I know it should not bother me as she is a total stranger but it does!

She probably has no one else for the pony and is disappointed because she'd imagined an easy sale in her mind.

People have odd reactions. I've been doing job interviews all week so had to send out some rejection letters. 99% of rejected applicants wrote back thank you for the opportunity and they hope to be considered if we have another vacancy, etc ... One wrote back that I had wasted her time and that she could (QUOTE) easily take me to court for stupidity (UNQUOTE). Should not have bothered me, but in the moment, it very much bothered me! Now I'm rolling my eyes over it and that's what you should do with your seller!

She is just bonkers!
When I viewed my cob, I was due to go for a 2nd viewing of another horse. I decided that I wanted the cob, paid the deposit and immediately text the other vendor to let her know that I was cancelling the appointment. She simply thanked me for letting her know, which I felt was appropriate.
Mind you, she did mention timewasters in her updated ad! The horse had been advertise for several weeks and she didn't have a saddle that fitted, so I didn't take it to heart, lol!

IF I was selling a horse I would be very grateful to have a potential purchaser going to the bother of advising me they wouldn't be turning up. If she has as many potential purchasers as she says then she shouldn't have a problem selling the pony. I certainly would not expect to be the only potential purchaser booked in to see a horse on a particular day so I'm guessing she doesn't have that much interest.

This. Text back with 'In that case you won't have any trouble selling will you?'

Seller should be grateful you took the time to let her know. So many people just don't bother. You did everything right. The seller is a prat.

You did the right thing. Seller should be grateful for notice. Some may argue that a phone call would be more appropriate than a text, but I think ''most'' people text nowadays, don't they??!!

I doubt you did anything wrong unless you spoke to her on the phone for hours and messaged her every five minutes wanting to know something else. It's her choice not to have set up appointments. First come first served in my book.

That's her fault for assuming you would want her horse and not arranging other viewers.

Blimey I'd be tempted to reply saying we'll I could have truly put myself first and not let you know at all!

I text back saying I could have viewed then said no - that would waste her time. Wished her luck with pony. Oh well chalk it up to experience.

well done for cancelling viewing.
You are not in the wrong at all, presumably the only thin you could have done to make it better was go to the viewing and buy the pony, it sounds like anything that deviated from that would be probably classed as time wasting!

Can't see that you did anything wrong. Would have been worse to turn up, waste an hour of your time and the sellers time viewing the pony and then saying 'oh actually i've seen another one i'm going to buy'. Seller just sounds rude. Some people don't even bother turning up or letting people know so well done for actually letting the seller know what was going on.

Sellers must know that buyers don't see one potential horse at a time. And I also find it unusual that they had turned down other people to view the pony when you had booked a viewing - unless you explicitly asked them to not have any other viewings.

When I was buying last year the only time the sellers would stop other people coming to view was if you said you were definitely interested and put a deposit down.

I was 90% sure on a mare, booked a 2nd viewing then a friend recommended I see one that she had been to see and bam....I didn't want to get off her. I messaged the seller for mare one who said no problem and good luck with the new mare.

Whoever you were dealing with is just rude! If they have other viewings lined up then what's the problem? Unless you had a deposit put down, then they should have been allowing others to view....simple. If they didn't then more fool them.

You did nothing wrong! Good luck with the cob x

Ignorant and rude seller, like so many people nowadays.

You did the right thing, OP. As others have said, maybe a phone call would have been marginally better, but that's splitting hairs.

It's just sour grapes on the seller's part. Probably had banked on you viewing and buying, but you didn't play ball and now she has to start from square one. The heart bleeds!

This is what happened when we were selling a horse. Buyer loved our horse but had to go & see another because her friend had told her to. The girl then cancelled second viewing of ours & bought the other horse. We thanked for her time & wished her luck with her new horse.

Since she purchased the other horse apparantly on Facebook she has talked about numerous issues she's had with the horse & wished she bought ours. It's a pity but it's the buyers decision ultimately as to which they buy. We still hope all turns out well with her horse.
