Grrrrr, sometimes horse people just don't help themselves.

Me and OH were driving past Pontispool earlier. Met a horse box coming down the road - now its a narrow road with barely enough room for one so we imediately stopped and quickly reversed and tucked ourselves with some difficulty into an awkward gateway.

Female driver not only did not wave, smile or thank us in anyway, she did not slow down or even *look* at us as she drove past. As a horse person myself, I always try to catch the eye of the driver of a horse box if I've pulled over just to give them a friendly smile... this lady really did stare fixedly staight ahead and completely ignored us.

I can't understand why, when so many people have the image of horse people as being stuck up and rude, anyone would actually go out of the their way to fulfil this steriotype. GRRRRRRRRR - it is people like that, that give the rest of us a bad reputation.

My OH wants me to mention the make of vehicle and the time we drove past just to name and shame but I'm going to resist LOL

How rude!!! After taking all that effort to make a clear passing and no appreciation...that really is disgraceful. I really do hate people like that...like does it really hurt to smile on your way past??? No wonder so many people get the idea that horsey people am stuck up it is because you got people like that around who arent willing to try and stop the bad reputation.

That is pretty rude

They were probably just concentrating on the road up ahead/trying to learn a dressage test/mentally punishing themselves for getting eliminated. I'm sure all drivers do it occassionally, especially transporting horses. Chill.

She may have been, but her attention should still have been on the road.

if someone can manage to do that lot while driving horses about im sure they can acknowledge someone thats pulled over for them!

i was driving up a narrow lane today, came round the corner and was face to face with a horse and cart (havnt seen one on the roads for yonks) young girl at the reins and her dad sat next to her looking like he was ready to grab the reins at a moments notice.Pony was just plodding along and didnt look like he had any intention of rushing off anywhere fast
grin.gif
. anyway i digress, i backed up pulled into someone gateway and the father couldnt have been more thankful. there were a couple of cars behind the cart and those drivers also looked quite content to be held up and would be for another half mile. im sure drivers are more tolerant of horse and cart than they are horse and rider!

Yes, they are. They also have more respect. Even more so with a donkey and cart

I have to disagree I'm afraid. Plenty of drivers skim the side of my carriage and the outside pony. Personally, I find cars tend to give ridden horses more room.

No, you should name and shame, I have lost count of the times I have stopped the car and said something to riders who totally ignored the fact I slowed down, crawled past etc giving them loads of room.
Drivers of boxes are no different. (though this driver has been known to drive up the middle of the A382 scattering ignorant tourists in her path...
