Having just posted a reply to the rugaholic thread I suddenly had a thought. My horses are moving to a place where the man is going to put there haylage in a cattle ring feeder type thing. Is it safe for the babies to wear their full neck rugs with this or ( and here is the neurotic mother bit) will they hang themselves or injure themselves.
I know my native hoovers are getting fed ad lib haylage they may not fit into any rug, girth, saddle or stable in 2 weeks time so this question may be redundant by then.

My boy at 3 managed to get his full neck rug caught on the gate and ripped his whole neck cover and pulled the gate off its hinges and escaped. lol. No sure about feeders though as never used one.

Don't see how they could get their rug caught unless it was a tombstone ones and even then they'd have to be pretty "special" to manage it! Mine has used them for years with no bother.

I use a tombstone feeder and my lads have full necks on and I've never had a problem.
Not sure if I would like to use a normal cattle feeder, they might rub the top of their manes off going in and out.
